Bachelor of Science in Applied Conservation Skills at Waterford IT - Advanced Entry Now Open

The BSc in Conservation Skills course is run in conjunction with Waterford City Council and allows students to work on live conservation projects as well as attending WIT for theory based modules. The course is the first of its kind in Ireland and is designed to up-skill construction professional’s in the conservation of historic buildings applying both practical and research principles.

The BSc in Applied Conservation Skills is a unique 1 year, Level 7 programme which acts as an accelerated programme for up-skilling qualified construction trades people and other operatives in building conservation. Graduates will be able to assess and implement conservation skills and techniques as required under Part IV of the Planning & Development Act (2000) in a range of conservation and heritage projects.

The BSc in Applied Conservation Skills is designed to equip students with the skills required to function in a supervisory capacity on building conservation projects. The general aim of the degree is to enable graduates understand the principles of conservation and to apply them in a practical manner. Students will manage change in protected structures in a way that retains character and qualities of special interest and demonstrate knowledge in research of historical building development. They will learn to recognise materials, craftsmanship and techniques of previous generations and treat them according to conservation principles

The programme is eligible for Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for the Register of Heritage Contractors, Construction Industry Register Ireland (CIRI), Royal Institute of Architects Ireland (RIAI) as well as other professional bodies.
